Who Has The Faith For White Coated Science?

-

Science buffs who consider themselves conservative and skeptical often make fun of spiritual insights and concepts. Many such scholars insist that spiritual notions like an intelligent universe are far-fetched and unfeasible.

Even if we ignore the blatantly obvious fact that awareness, capacity for learning, and dynamic response to stimuli can be seen everywhere in nature it’s still extremely difficult to deny the existence of universal intelligence. To be frank, the scientist who thinks he/she is being logical by defending the idea that life as we know it is the result of blind chance is much further off the deep end than even the most extreme and abstract philosopher.

The ultra stern, white-coated scientist who scoffs at the notion of anything meaningful beyond the five senses would have you believe billions of random occurrences all happened at exactly the right time and in precisely the correct way over a period of billions of years, hence we have the universe as it now is. To accept such a continuous stream of good luck without the presence of intelligent guidance is definitely a bigger stretch than to just embrace the idea of a conscious universe.

Tiny differences (and I mean tiny!) in the way the cosmos has unfolded from the big bang would have eradicated any chance of galaxies, planets, and life emerging. It’s utterly mind-boggling to imagine the amount of blind luck required to place our planet in the right proximity to the sun for numerous complex ecosystems to thrive, and for a dizzying number of species to strategically coexist within these various climates.

Slight variations in the number of particles that survived the annihilation resulting from particle/anti-particle collision after the Big Bang would have caused the new universe to collapse into a great black hole or expand too quickly to foster the formation of stars and planets. Minute differences in the cosmic temperature in either direction would also have rendered the original substance unable to produce matter and life as we now know these phenomena.

It takes more faith than I can muster to buy the idea that I am a conscious being in a world full of natural miracles because the mindless universe rolled the dice and won a few thousand billion times. This is just a preposterous position!

How on earth is it that intelligent, rational people can pretend there’s anything remotely sane about this whole blind chance angle? Everything about the natural world emanates intelligence, whether you’re looking at the formation of galaxies or the way a tiny insect colony cooperates.

Just to be clear I am NOT anti-science. On the contrary I believe scientific pursuit is a sacred quest. But there are rigid, deliberately obtuse factions within the scientific community that are about as useless as organized religion.

Clinging to the dogmatic constructs of science to the extent that one is completely blind to the intuitive truth does nothing to move our species forward. Ideally scientific visionaries like John Hagelin and Fred Alan Wolf will assume a more prominent position in the coming generations.

Using dogma to accuse science of dogma to support a form of creationism which then leads to anthropomirphism is ripe with Freudian projection. I find it very spiritual to study our lives in the universe pragmatically. Most scientists just like religionists are materialistic and say what they say to maintain their place in the hierarchy based on god and money. To believe in an effort to nuture and bring about a change in human psychic to further the cause of health well being and longevity of our entire species within the nature of our planet within the universe is the highest possible philosophy and spirituaity and human can uphold. I have named this movement within humanism and atheism as SEASON.
