Be Your Own Master!
-
I enjoy reading, learning from others, and receiving insights from those who are walking the spiritual path alongside me or ahead of me. I even believe we can learn from those who are “less experienced” or who are going through challenges we have mastered.
Surely we can learn many new things from other human beings. However…
You are ultimately the master of your own spiritual growth. NEVER allow anyone to convince you otherwise!
Your life experience and your inner wisdom are the lights that will guide you along your path. Be willing to receive knowledge, love, and guidance from others but please never buy into the idea that you must give your power away and become an empty slate for a so-called master instructor.
As you might have guessed, this post is in response to the many courses, seminars, and other products/events in the past year that have to do with “The Masters”. I see an unfortunate trend developing in the world of spiritual and personal development learning that is very much like the absurd “home business” industry.
There are those who would position themselves as gurus and rob you of your own power of choice. And there are those who, for a small commission, would gladly endorse the idea and urge you to do whatever is needed to spend money on the latest book, course, or seminar so you can be truly enlightened.
Understand: Many of the teachers in these events have my respect and it’s certainly good to promote and share the fun of new products with your readers.
I’m very much interested in creating wealth, and I’m not in any way opposed to selling or marketing. But there is a fine line between promoting value and selling widgets.
If you feel led to buy a book, audio course, or seminar ticket then I urge you to do so. Enjoy the content and the experience with all your heart! But NEVER allow another to make you feel as if you will be less than enough without the “new” knowledge that is to be shared from some book, audio, or live event.
You are already more than enough and you are already the truth in every way.
Certainly you have more lessons ahead of you – we all do – but these will be more about letting go than adding to. I realize that’s an abstract statement that will be read differently by everyone.
My core message here is to embrace learning without losing yourself. You are the ultimate master of your own life and the carrier of your own vast inner wisdom… ALWAYS!

Lori is right as you are right. I, too, have felt overwelmed by all the “masters”. Even though there is a great deal to learn from them, all we really have to do is look inside ourselves to know what is right for each of us. Thanks for your blog posts. You have great info!

Timothy,
I have been thinking the same thing for weeks if not longer–in fact that thought was prominent this am just minutes before I received your email. I had received an email from you earlier and it referred me to Bob Proctor which I understand and I understand the concept of marketing etc and also understand that individuals want to make a living at what they are doing in the Spiritualpreneur (to borrow a term from one of them) world and I know that many of them are doing excellent work and are helping a lot of people–so don’t get me wrong.
However I signed up to various ezine emails expecting some words of wisdom to come but most only send teaser info with products attached–it is somewhat disheartening as they seem to, with marketing finesse, feed one another via referrals etc. Again I understand.
But your email was refreshing in that its what I truly believe myself—my truth and my methods are inside of me working with Source–my Higher Self, my Guides via mediation, listening, visualization, eliminating outmoded beliefs, etc
I must admit when I received your Bob Proctor referral I was wondering if that was all that you were about–even though I had read your fantastic free articles and e-books and felt that you were very sincere. I knew better than that but that is when I started feeling let down this am. But thank you so much for clarifying what I already sensed about you and also about what I already knew about me.
If you wish to respond to this you have my email.

I am a student of ACIM. This one book alone has ALL the answers to ALL the questions I will ever ask. The ONLY way I need help is in ACCELERATION, and I don’t want to have to pay an arm and a leg for it. It is quite possible I am becoming enlightened at the pace intended for me, or more accurately, at the pace I am prepared to accept. Everything I need is within. There IS nothing without…..or should I say, I am without nothing…………………………..

Truly, all the answers for an individual are encoded within that person’s higher self and can be accessed thru the unconscious mind. And as a seminar leader myself, one of the first things I tell my participants is they don’t NEED me; I am simply a facilitator for at least part of each indiviuals spiritual journey. As a seminar participant, I enjoy the interaction with other participants and facilitators, until the latter begins to believe too much of his or her marketing materials. Here is, I think where breakthru-seminars get a bad reputation.
Some of the transformations can be so profound that the leader can get the impression that he or she caused the transformation. At best the leader was a catalyst (in chemistry a substance that accelerates the reaction, but does not participate in it) or at worst an incidental bystander. I have facilitated seminars where someone experienced a profound, positive change that was different from what I (in my infinite wisdom) expected. In that case my role was to support such a transformation. I figure the person’s higher self knows better than I what he or she needs.
I have noticed that people who work with someone else, be it individually or in groups, do release their blocks to their magnificence for effectively than those who work on their own. Obviously there are exceptions to this statement, but being held accountable by some facilitator does seem to accelerate the process.
I absolutely agree, “Buyer, beware…” when it comes to seminars or coaching. Because the ultimate source of the answers for an individual are within that individual.
Thanks for the reminder.

Thank you for the wonderful comments. In our attempts to be “better and better” it is so easy to get over-whelmed with all the enticements that come at us every day via e-mail. Unless we want to spend ten hours a day trying to digest everything, there is just no way we can take it all in. We just need to relax, stay in the moment, and listen to what is inside. Thank you for reminding us of that.

Thank You, Timothy
I, like all of the other respondents, have been overwhelmed by the constant “you need my help” emails arriving daily. My thanks to you for the jolt back to the reality of who I am.
I have been out of work now for over a year and am struggliing to keep my life on this planet as comfortable and meaningful as possible, but I still don’t have time to go through all of the daily emails from the “masters” and “gurus” that come in. Perhaps they don’t realize that in some ways they are contributing to the stagnation of many who don’t know which way to turn because of all the different directions they all want to lead us. I understand the marketing aspect of their business, but PLEASE, if they want to help others, as they all say they do, then do something to help. The more they will give, the more they will receive, if I’m not mistaken.
Enough ranting!!
Again, Thank You, Timothy for your straight forwardness and for helping so many others see through the clouds and the mist. I will most definitly be looking more closely at your emails and you will be hearing more from me on your blog.
God Bless.

Yes, thank you for that reminder and to all of the people who have left their comments here. I have received some helpful nudges from many emails and newsletters but some that I have subscribed to send them out every day and sometimes several times a day all leading to a sales pitch that implies that one cannot progress without help. I have tried unsubscribing from the most prolific but am still being inundated with information and much of it duplicated as they have built support networks to promote their products.

thank you, thank you, thank you! this is the very thing i needed to hear. As Lori stated I am also overwhelmed by the amount of offers that are sent every day. The thing that saddens me very much is that one time before the net you could actually write a letter to a spiritual teacher and receive back a letter ACTUALLY written to YOU. Not a personal sounding(auto-generated form e-mail) intended to make you feel that the sender really knows about you or cares. The personal touch is really necessary in spiritual development. getting a message answering a question of your heart fills you with a warm glow that spurs you on to work hard for that better life that you envisage for yourself and others. your message has that true ring of concern for us all to not get trapped by the self-improvement marketers who endorse each others goods valid though they be, trying to hook us with hyperbole and superlatives.

During a lot of time I pray to find a “master” to guide me along the difficulties of my life. Something who could give me the appropiate help, words and guide in any moment.
My prays was directed to GOD (ever HE was near of me and helps in the inevitable hard situations that all we live in our roads).
The master never arrived to me life as a phisical entity. Now I?m begin to understand that HE (which ever was near of me) don?t need (in my particular circunstances) a specific intermediary. He uses all: my wife, my daugther, my friends, one experience … all this can bring me the word that I need from HE in a particular situation.
Whit the time I have learned to pay attention to all around me when I need help and I?m wating for an aswer of HIM.
I believe this ORIGINAL POWER that creates all us is the MASTER. HE can talk through “human masters” when someone need it (is appropiate for his particular characteristics) or can use other methods to communicate and guide when we pray for it. HE can too no talk when we don?t want to hear about HE, but in such circunstances even HE acts and TALK (in the silence), permiting we teach by ourselves the necessary lesson in a specific moment of our lives.
Of course, at the end we are too the MASTER, when we connect with the bright star, the divine power that lives in ourselves and have direct connection with HE.
Thanks Tim for your ever wisdom words.
Love for all

Tim, you have hit the preverbial nail on the head!!!!
Whilst it is great to be able to learn new skills and benefit from the experience of others in many areas of our lives we are in great danger here of INFORMATION OVERKILL. And, YES, the self-development “industry” is unfortunately beginning to mirror some of the more unsavoury traits of the “Home-Business” industry much to my dismay. I think we should all remain eager to learn and develop but not lose sight of the fact that we can do the vast majority of this on our own with a little guidance and help. Its easier said than done of course but we must try to sort the wheat from the chaff of the abundance of information out there – seperate the genuine information from the marketeers and opportunists who have simply jumped on the popular bandwagon to profit from ordinary people who are genuinely trying to improve their lives.
regards
Andy
