Make The World Better
Most people intuitively feel the urge to add something good to the world. We have within us an essential desire to make the world a better place.
Once an individual embarks on the spiritual journey, or even a simple plan of personal development, he or she will inevitably come to a place where the need to add value to the world becomes a strong compulsion.
I believe now more than ever it is critical for people to honor this subtle calling, both in their daily endeavors and through unified intent. The human collective, and thus the state of our world in all areas, is defined by the attitudes and actions of individuals.
You don’t need to be a millionaire or a celebrity to make a profound, lasting difference and add tremendous good to the world.
Here are a few meaningful suggestions that every single one of us can apply toward the improvement of humanity and planet earth:
Understand The First Virtue
The first virtue of spiritual living, connecting to the true self, and honoring our relation to the universal whole is reverence for all of life. For humanity to truly shine we must love one-another regardless of surface issues like nationality or political affiliation. Furthermore we should strive to appreciate and promote the value of all living creatures, and to respect the natural world from which we emerged.
It is absolutely not my intention to push my values system on the reader, but I believe internalizing this virtue is essential for making the greatest possible contribution to the higher good. Please give it some thought as you move forward.
Embrace The Best Part Of Yourself
By simply holding the intention to help the human species attain enlightenment and living each day from the premise of love and personal expansion you are already adding significantly to the higher good. As you grow spiritually and allow the true self to unfold you will be raising the consciousness and vibration of humanity.
Within you is natural love, compassion, insight, and inspiration. Give freely of this essence in each moment and you will immediately make the world a better place.
Living from this mindset will also open your conscious mind to new visions of how and where you can add further to the common good. Your simple intention to do good will attract new opportunities, resources, and ideas into your awareness.
Embody Generosity
Make a habit of being aware of others and acting from generosity. Rather than telling yourself you’ll give a big chunk of money to a particular charity when you make your first million, decide to be generous now in all areas of your life!
If you receive a postcard soliciting money for the American Heart Association or Habitat For Humanity (for example), cut a small check of $10 to $20. These small contributions add up to a HUGE amount of aid and if everyone gave a little, there would be little excuse for current health and social problems like heart disease, cancer, homelessness, and so forth.
Many grocery stores and other retailers solicit $1 donations at the checkout counter to support local and regional charity operations. Take advantage of these opportunities to give! An extra dollar or so each time you shop is an insignificant expinditure for you but over time will make a solid contribution to one or more good causes.
When driving during rush hour or along busy streets, look for people on side conduits who are trying to merge into the flow of traffic and let them in. In the same spirit, be willing to stop and help people who are having car trouble along the side of the road; even if you’re not a mechanic you could offer them a ride or the use of your cell phone.
Donate your old clothes to a shelter or other service that provides clothing for destitute individuals. You might even give some of your time to a soup kitchen or other organization that helps others in need.
These are only sample ideas. Understand that generosity need not be formal. You can raise the vibration of humanity in a thousand tiny ways by flowing with the spirit of generosity.
- Be willing to cover a co-worker’s shift so he can attend an important family event.
- If you’re an entrepreneur, price your wares in a manner that provides profit but also delivers fantastic value to your customers.
- Give a life-changing book to someone in your life who needs some inspiration.
- If you see litter on the sidewalk in front of you, pick it up and dispose of it properly.
- Take time out of your busy schedule to listen to another human being who needs someone to talk to.
- Allow compliments and praise to flow freely from your lips.
- Recycle household garbage like aluminum, newspapers, etc.
You are one with the source of all abundance. Think and behave accordingly.
In all your affairs honor the spirit of giving.
A wonderful side effect of generosity is increased abundance within your own life. As you give freely and look for new ways to serve others you are creating a vibration the Universe will respond to with more giving and service.
Rise Above The Politics Of The Matter
Despite what tasteless American politicians and other manipulators would have us believe, doing good for others and for our planet is NOT a political issue. Please do not get hung up on political platforms and “isms” that pay lip service to good causes but in reality have ulterior agendas.
For example, the FACT that our species has damaged the earth, and that we must continue shifting away from the mindsets that are bad for nature is not a “liberal” issue or an invention of the Democratic Party. It’s imperative that we not be “taken in” by politics that surround some of these important issues.
Small And Consistent Actions
You can take things to the next level very easily by committing to a very simple yet sincere plan of consistent action. Leverage the powerful force of habit by building routines that serve the higher good. The idea here is to focus on a few small actions that you can take regularly, thus building momentum and confidence in your quest to create real change on this planet.
The specific actions may vary slightly based on your exact situation, but a few easy examples are…
- Each time you visit the grocery store, commit to buying $2-3 for the local food bank. At the end of each month take your accumulated food to the appropriate collection depot.
- Take 3-4 bags of dry cat & dog food to your local animal shelter every week (or every other week).
- Spend an hour each Saturday visiting residents in a nearby nursing home. Many of these patients have no family and receive no visitation.
- Commit to saying something kind to the first person you see when you leave the house each day.
- Register for a click to give program that allows you to provide tangible support to the charity of your choosing by literally clicking a button once each day.
The exact nature of your specific daily actions are less important than the existence of your daily plan. The idea here is to shift from talking/thinking about doing more and actually get into motion now.
As you build the habit of actively contributing you’ll attain momentum. You’ll seek to do even more, and you’ll meet other people who have the same interests.
Before long you could easily find yourself forming a network with other human beings who want to make the world better. Tremendous good will arise from a commitment to just a few daily activities with the intention of expanding humanity.
Please take this page to heart and decide RIGHT NOW to do your part. Humanity is indeed at a crossroads as you read this article and it’s up to every single one of us to shape the bright future we most desire.
